OVERVIEW

Architecture choices, not service trivia

SAA-C03 asks you to select designs that satisfy multiple constraints. A technically possible answer may still be wrong if it adds unnecessary operations, weakens resilience, or costs more than the requirement permits.

AWS recommends hands-on experience designing cloud solutions. Study services through patterns such as decoupling, multi-AZ recovery, least privilege, data lifecycle management, caching, and elasticity.

Four domains to balance

  • Secure architectures: identity, permissions, network controls, encryption, and protected access to data and workloads.
  • Resilient architectures: loose coupling, high availability, disaster recovery, and designs that continue or recover from failure.
  • High-performing architectures: appropriate storage, compute, database, network, and data-ingestion choices.
  • Cost-optimized architectures: selecting suitable resource types, pricing approaches, managed services, and lifecycle strategies without missing requirements.

Sample SAA-C03 questions

SAMPLE QUESTION 1

A web application must continue serving requests if one Availability Zone fails. Which design best meets the requirement?

  1. Load balance instances across at least two Availability Zones
  2. Place all instances in one larger subnet
  3. Create multiple instances in one Availability Zone
  4. Store an AMI in a second Region only
Show answer and explanation

Answer: A. Distributing healthy targets across Availability Zones avoids making one zone a single point of failure. Capacity and data-layer resilience must also be designed appropriately.

SAMPLE QUESTION 2

Objects in an S3 bucket are accessed frequently for 30 days and then rarely, but must remain immediately available. What is an appropriate cost-control approach?

  1. Use an S3 Lifecycle transition to a suitable infrequent-access class
  2. Move the objects to instance store
  3. Copy every object to multiple general-purpose EBS volumes
  4. Keep all objects in S3 Standard forever
Show answer and explanation

Answer: A. A lifecycle policy can transition objects as access patterns change. The exact class should be selected after considering retrieval, minimum-duration, and access requirements.

A better way to review scenario questions

  1. Underline the non-negotiable constraints: availability, latency, durability, security, operations, and cost.
  2. Identify the architecture pattern before focusing on product names.
  3. Eliminate answers that violate a stated constraint even if they use a familiar service.
  4. Explain the tradeoff in the chosen answer and the circumstances that would make another option preferable.

OVERVIEW

Hands-on reinforcement

Build small, cost-controlled examples of identity policies, network segmentation, highly available workloads, event-driven integration, storage lifecycle policies, and monitoring. Remove resources promptly and use budgets or alerts.

Practice sessions should vary enough to test reasoning. Repeating identical questions too quickly can create recognition without architectural understanding.

Frequently asked questions

What exam code does this practice page cover?

It covers SAA-C03, matching the current platform record and the AWS exam guide reviewed for this page.

Should beginners take Cloud Practitioner first?

AWS notes that people without IT experience may benefit from foundational cloud knowledge first, but it is not presented here as a mandatory prerequisite.

Does the simulator include AWS lab environments?

No. The current practice experience provides exam-style questions, scoring, explanations, and analytics—not hosted AWS labs.
